Gun Arrest By Paid Duty Officer

A paid duty officer arrested two men alleged to have been brandishing what appeared to be a firearm to downtown commuters.

On Tuesday, May 19, at around 5:20 a.m., a paid duty officer, who assigned to traffic duties in the Bay Street/Front Street area, was approached by citizens to report a man with a gun.

It is alleged that two men were panhandling around Union Station and one of the men was armed with a gun. The men brandished the gun while approaching people passing by, lifting a shirt at times to expose the butt of the firearm.

The paid duty officer searched the area, located, and arrested the two men, seizing an imitation firearm.

Ryan O'Campo, 29, of Toronto, is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and fail to comply with probation. 

Kuganesan Wijayarathnam, 22, of no fixed address, is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and fail to comply with recognizance.
