After meeting last year with a young lady with brain cancer, members of Police Dog Services E platoon started a fundraiser.
“She had the most positive attitude of any person I have ever met,” said Constable John Massey. “Her positive attitude and outlook on life inspired us to raise money for her family to cover some of the ongoing costs associated with travelling to Sick Kids Hospital.”
The young girl and her mom were very receptive to the idea, with one caveat.
“However, they both agreed that any money raised would be best served going to Sick Kids Hospital,” said Massey. “This is another testament to the type of person she is and what a great heart she has.”
The fundraiser evolved to include Citadel K9, which is a non-profit that provides service dogs to emergency responders with PTSD.
Through T-shirt sales and other events, they managed to raise $1,000 for the Sick Kids Foundation and $800 for Citadel K9.
They are continuing to sell T-shirts for the rest of the year.
