Several firearms and a significant quantity of drugs were seized over the weekend in the wake of of a gun violence reduction strategy that includes the deployment of about 200 frontline officers.
On Friday, July 27 at around 9.45 p.m., 22 Division Major Crime & Community Response Units were patrolling the area of Queensway and Windermere Ave. as part of an ongoing property and drug investigation.
It’s alleged that the officers observed and followed a vehicle in an attempt to identify the occupants. After the officers observed a drug transaction between the occupants of the vehicle and man on the sidewalk, they followed the vehicle to a nearby gas station where another drug transaction took place.
Plainclothes officers stopped the car from leaving and arrested the occupants in the vehicle.
In the process of the arrest, it’s alleged that a loaded .32 calibre handgun with nine rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber with the hammer cocked and the safety off ready to fire fell from one of the parties.
A quantity of marijuana and crack cocaine was located.
Dustin Maxwell,25; Ricardo Rhule, 27 and Leonilla Afrane, 27, all of Toronto, each face 11 charges for firearms and drug offences.
A young offender, who cannot be identified, was charged with two counts of failing to comply with probation.
The suspects appeared in court on July 28.
On Saturday, July 28 at around 2.40 a.m., officers responded to a gun call in the Highway 27 and Finch Ave. W. area.
It’s alleged that an altercation ensued after a heated argument outside of a licensed establishment. An 18-year-old man and a 39-year-old man were found to be in joint possession of a firearm and discharged two rounds into a group of people.
No one was injured.
Police located the two men and seized a loaded Intratec TEC-DC9 semi-automatic pistol with 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the magazine.
Inderpaul Flora, 39, of Toronto was arrested and faces eight charges while Justin Singh, 18, faces three firearms charges.
Toronto Police is urging anyone who witnessed the shooting, recorded the video on their cell phones or dash camera in the area or anyone who may have any information regarding this firearm investigation to contact police as soon as possible.

On Sunday, July 29 at about 3.26 a.m., officers conducting a liquor license investigation in the area of Sheppard Ave. W. and Chesswood Dr. allegedly saw a man leaving and attempting to drive away.
When police approached the vehicle to investigate the driver for being impaired, he tried to evade them and drove into three parked vehicles.
During the arrest, it’s alleged that a loaded Sig Sauer P220 .45 calibre gun with eight rounds of ammunition and a Glock 17, 9mm calibre with one round of ammunition was seized
Heroin and cocaine were also seized.
Yass Abdillahi, 25, of Brampton, faces 20 charges including failing to comply with a probation order.
