Youths involved in the ProAction Hockey League were in for a big surprise recently when Toronto Maple Leaf right winger William Nylander showed up at their hockey rink – Angela James in Flemingdon Park – with a brand new vehicle bearing gifts.

Nylander distributed hockey equipment – donated by Bauer – to the young people and left the vehicle for police officers to use during the hockey season.  ProAction Cops & Kids funds programs that connect youth to police officers, including the PAHL, which has ensured hundreds of kids have had the chance to play hockey.

Nylander is the brand ambassador for Volvo and a spokesperson for Bauer.

“This fits well with what our brand stands for,” said Mary McNeill, Volvo’s marketing director. “With this being the holiday season and being able to give back to the community at this this time just felt like the right thing to do.

“Also, through the hockey season, the officers will be able to use the Volvo XC 90 to drive kids and equipment to the games. They get to arrive in a safe vehicle, which has lots of space.”

Nylander presented the keys to Constable Lucas Agnew.

“We were not expecting it,” he said. “It is something we will make full use of and we are very thankful to Volvo.”

Neighbourhood Officers from 54 Division conduct a 10-week hockey school program, starting in October, before the start of the 15-week organized season.
