A 25-year-old man is dead and police are looking for suspects in an early morning shooting downtown.
Rapper Shmar Parris was fatally shot during the early hours of April 4.
Parris, found slumped in the driver’s seat of the bullet-riddled car at Carlton and Parliament Sts., died later in hospital.
Homicide Detective Sergeant Steve Ryan said Parris was known to police and the attack was not random.
“It certainly was targeted in my view,” he said. “…There are several bullet holes in that car and it’s a pretty brazen attack, given where we are in the city. Shooting at a moving vehicle, you know, it’s stupid actually.”
Police originally received a call for the sound of gunshots at Mutual St. and Gerrard St. E. around 2:20 a.m. before the collision was reported at Carlton and Parliament Sts. Investigators believe the incident began at Mutual and Gerrard and ended at Carlton and Parliaments and believe a passenger in Parris' Chevrolet Malibu made her own way to hospital with a non-life-threatening bullet wound.
Investigators are looking for a light-coloured SUV, seen fleeing the area and spotted driving erratically westbound on the Gardiner Expressway. Police believe it may have some damage in its right side.
