Homicide investigators are urging specific witnesses seen on surveillance video around the time of a beating death in the city’s west end to contact police as soon as possible.
On August 30, at around 2.30 a.m., police responded to an assault call in the vicinity of Bloor St. W. and Concord Ave. where they found Jorge Interiano, 40, who had been severely beaten. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
At a media conference at police headquarters on September 11, Detective Shannon Dawson said the individuals seen on video may have witnessed all or portions of the altercation between the deceased and the suspects and may be unaware of the seriousness of the incident.
“We are appealing to these individuals to come forward and speak to police to assist us in our investigation,” said Dawson. “We want them to contact us while the incident is still fresh in their memory. We are also appealing for anybody in the area in that time frame, who has not contacted police and may have something, to come forward and speak with us.”
Dawson released the photos of witnesses with their faces obscured to protect their privacy but recognize themselves and the role they have a role to play in this investigation.
“We have obtained a substantial amount of video and we are still in the process of reviewing it,” she said. “As we view the video, it has become evident that there were numerous pedestrians in the area at the time of the event. It is also obvious that some of the attention of the pedestrians was drawn to the area where Mr. Interiano was subsequently located.”
She said the deceased was involved in an altercation with two individuals who were last seen fleeing westbound on foot.
