Homicide investigators have released images of a suspect and Persons of Interest in the shooting death of Andrew Surage.

Five grainy images of people and one image of a vehicle. Descriptions accompany the images: Suspect, Male, 20s, non-white, light complexion, 5'10", medium build, dark hooded jacket, appears light in this photo. Persons of Interest #1 Female, black #2 Male, black. Person of Interest #3 Male, black. Suspect Vehicle Dark four door sedan, damage to front bumper on driver's side.
Investigators want to identify a suspect and three persons of interest seen on security video near the scene of the homicide

Detective Sergeant Graham Gibson said Surage was killed after he came to his friend's aid while leaving an illegal after-hours party at the Captain Social Club, 325 Weston Road, on October 5 at 5:45 a.m.

A man approached one of Surage's friends, speaking briefly, then ripping a chain from the man's neck and assaulting him.

Gibson said Surage made a demand for the chain to be returned, before the suspect was alleged to have walked to a vehicle to retrieve a gun and shot Surage once.

“I don't think anybody deserves to lose their life, let alone over the theft of a chain,” said Gibson.

Surage, a married father of five, was catching up with old friends that night when they decided to extend their evening and attend the club, Gibson said.

“Mr. Surage and his friends did not like the atmosphere of this club and almost immediately decided they were going to leave, although they did stay for a short period of time,” Gibson said.

Police want to speak to any witnesses who were at the club that night, especially those who saw the shooting.

Homicide Detective Sergeant Graham Gibson release images of a suspect and Persons of Interest in the murder of Andrew Surage

Security camera footage shows three Persons of Interest and a vehicle associated to the suspect, who arrived at the club several hours earlier. The vehicle is described as a dark-coloured sedan, possibly a Honda Accord.

“I believe the Persons of Interest were aware that the suspect had a gun and are, at this point, now aware that the suspect shot Mr. Surage,” Gibson said, noting that the suspect and Persons of Interest were wearing dark clothing despite the fact it looks light on the security camera images.

“If you are one of the Persons of Interest in the video footage, I urge you come forward.”

Gibson said many other people were there that night but only Surage's friends have cooperated with police.

“If you were there that night, and saw the suspect shoot Mr. Surage, I urge you to listen to your conscience and call me,” he said. “Even if you didn't witness the shooting, I urge you to call me.”

He said the Persons of Interest now have the chance to come forward and provide information to investigators.

“Why he came back and decided to shoot, is something only the suspect knows,” he said.
