Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying several suspects caught on security camera who attacked a teenage boy on the August holiday long weekend.
At around 1.30 a.m. on Sunday morning, August 3, the 17-year-old victim got out of a cab on York St. just south of Queen St. W. when he was approached by six men who punched, kicked and stomped on his head. The suspects fled on foot westbound on Richmond St. and Queen St. W. towards University Ave.
Three of the suspects jumped into a taxi at University Ave. which drove southbound.
As a result of the vicious attack, the victim was in a coma for a month before being transferred to a rehabilitation centre.
“He suffered significant head trauma and he has not been able to communicate since the beating,” Detective Paul Rinkoff said.
Police have interviewed several witnesses and are appealing to those who witnessed the incident and have not contacted them to come forward.
“This was a busy holiday weekend and a lot of people were in the area,” said Rinkoff, who added that the motive for the attack is unknown.
The suspects – five black and one white – are believed to be between the ages of 18-25.
