Hold Up investigators are seeking the public’s help identifying two suspects who committed a mid-morning robbery on October 14.
At around 11 a.m., they entered Mona Clara Jewellers at 808 York Mills. Rd., near Leslie Star., and made off with at least $500,000 worth of jewellry.
It’s alleged both suspects took control of two victims inside the store.
One of the suspects, armed with a handgun, forced a victim to open the jewellry display case and both suspects removed a quantity of jewels which they placed in bags they were carrying. Staff Inspector Mike Earl said the suspects were in the store for nearly five minutes.
“We are very concerned because this robbery was committed in a busy mall during the day,” he said. “They just walked right down the ramp and entered the store through the front door and then fled through the rear exit.”
Both suspects appear to be wearing black burkas with shiny items on the sleeves.
“It’s another way of disguising yourself,” Earl said. “It was October so a balaclava may have drawn attention.”
One of the suspects is described as black, about 5’11”, wearing black gloves and men’s boots. The other suspect is described as approximately 6’3”, wearing black boots.
Earl is urging anyone who was in the area at the time, and may have witnessed something suspicious, to contact police.
“We do see video of them walking through the parking lot to the store,” Earl said. “We do believe a getaway car was out back.”
Investigators want to speak to anyone who may have bought a large quantity of jewellery.
