Police are asking for the public’s assistance in looking for suspects involved in the vicious beating of a teenager last year that left the boy with severe physical impairments.

Investigators want to identify these three men in connection with an assault on York Street south of Queen St. W.

On August 3 last year, a 17-year-old boy exited a taxi cab around 1 a.m. on  York St. near Richmond St. when he was confronted by a group of six men. The men viciously assaulted the victim, beating him up and stomping on his head, leaving the boy lying on the street.

The teenager was taken to hospital where he remained in a coma for a month.

Detective Sergeant Paul Rinkoff is appealing once more to the public to help catch the people involved in this violent crime.

“We are hoping for public assistance in identifying these males, if people want to remain anonymous they can always call Crime Stoppers,” said Rinkoff, who has since handed over the case to Detective Constable Matt Fenwick, of 52 Division.

“The motive is unknown, but we know the suspects fled in different directions, possibly taking a taxi going north on University Avenue,” said Rinkoff.

The victim continues to recover with the support of his family.

“The boy has undergone several lifesaving surgeries and is currently in rehabilitation,” said Rinkoff.

The family of the young man has also been severely affected by this crime, said Rinkoff, who has met with them since the attack several times.

“They want justice… their lives have been severely altered.”

Video and photos released by police are of high quality and the suspect’s faces are easily identifiable for anyone who knows them, said Rinkoff.

The teenager, who is recovering slowly, “will likely never have the same quality of life,” said Rinkoff but the family remains hopeful for his full recovery.

“These men need to be apprehended – for the victim, his family and for the safety of the community,” said Rinkoff.

The suspects – five black and one white – are believed to be between the ages of 18-25.
