Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect after an armed man committed a sexual assault.
On Saturday, April 9 at around 10.30 p.m., a 52-year-old woman observed the suspect loitering in the basement of her apartment in the Parliament and Howard Sts. area.
The suspect joined the victim in the elevator and brandished a small handgun while directing the woman to exit the elevator. Forcing the victim into a stairwell, he sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene through the front lobby.
The victim received medical treatment and was later released from hospital.
Sex Crimes investigators released two security videos from the building that show the suspect walking in a hallway in the basement and fleeing through the front lobby.
“We are asking anyone with information on the identity of this man to come forward to police,” Detective Sergeant Joanne Rudnick said, at a news conference at police headquarters on April 11.
On Sunday April 10 at around 2 p.m., a male with a similar description was seen loitering in a building near Isabella & Jarvis Sts. He fled before police arrived on the scene.
The suspect is described as a black man, 20-25 years, 5’9” with a medium build and some facial hair. He was wearing black jeans, a grey hooded sweater, a grey vest, a dark toque, tan coloured shoes and was carrying a red knap sack.
“He is considered armed and dangerous,” added Rudnick. “I would ask members of the public who reside in the downtown area to pay special attention to anyone matching this description and loitering in apartment buildings or stairwells.”
