Tips from the public led to the arrest of a man accused of several sexual assaults this month of teenagers in the Yonge St. and Eglinton Ave. E. area.
Francois Lesieur, 32, was arrested on September 25 and charged with four counts of sexual assault.
It’s alleged that a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by the same suspect, on two separate occasions, while walking to the subway at Yonge St. and Eglinton Ave. E. on September 12 and September 16.
On September 16, a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man at the Yonge- Eglinton Centre and, two days later, a 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man while in the TTC station at Yonge and Bloor Sts.
At a news conference at police headquarters on September 29, Sex Crimes Detective Constable Matthew Pinfold said the suspect was captured on video surveillance.
“We are concerned there may be other victims.”
Pinfold is appealing to victims to call Sex Crimes investigators at 416-808-7474.
He thanked the public for their assistance, including TTC riders.
“It’s because of them that we were able to identify a suspect,” said Pinfold. “Hopefully, this will let people know that this type of behaviour is not acceptable and those who commit these types of acts will be caught and held responsible.”
Pinfold said Lesieur frequents the Yonge/Eglinton and Yonge/Bloor Sts. area.
“People need to be aware of their surroundings at all times. If you see something, call the police.”
