Toronto Police are seeking help from the public in tracking down six male suspects who brutally attacked a 17-year-old two years ago.
Zakaria Omar was confronted by the six suspects as he got out of a taxi outside near Queen St. W. and York St. at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2014.
He suffered debilitating head injuries during the assault and is still receiving rehabilitation treatment.
Omar’s father said his family is still reeling from the incident.
“Zak is a different person since this happened,” said Omar. “He’s recovering well, but his rehabilitation is long-term.”
He joined police in appealing for witnesses to come forward.
“There are a lot of people who know who did this and they don’t want to come out and say,” he added. “They are walking around the streets.”
Detective Constable Matt Fenwick of 52 Division’s Major Crime Unit said the crime was extremely brutal.
“I would ask that when you are reviewing the video, please pay special attention to the six subjects fleeing the area,” he said. “Any characteristics about them that may stand out, please call me.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Fenwick at 416-808-5235, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416−222−TIPS (8477), online at 222tips.com, text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637), or Leave A Tip on Facebook.
