Homicide investigators are requesting the public’s help identifying two men wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in the Eglinton Ave. E. and Markham Rd. area last month.
On December 14, at around 12.45 a.m., shots were fired into a group of people standing outside Tropics Restaurant & Bar at 260 Markham Rd.
Yusef Hagi Ahmed, 27, succumbed to his wounds a short time after the shooting. A female victim suffered a gunshot wound to her hand and a male suffered a non-penetrating leg wound.
“What we were able to gather is that there were a group of people standing outside the bar, having a cigarette or sharing a cigarette, when these two unknown persons come along the sidewalk and started to shoot rounds in their direction,” Detective Jeff Tavares said, at a news conference at police headquarters on February 3. “People flee the area, including the deceased.”
Both suspects were wearing hoodies and dark clothing. One of them was wearing dark pants with a thick white stripe down the side of the leg.
Tavares said he believed the suspects are familiar with the neighbourhood and the plaza that Tropics is in.
“As they walk on the rear driveway, they tuck their heads down, knowing there is a camera,” he said. “They go to the side because they know there is a split in the plaza. They are able to make a visual before returning back to the sidewalk where the persons are still standing outside Tropics and, at that time, fire multiple rounds towards that group.”
