A teenager wanted for violent crimes was arrested with a loaded firearm.
On August 27, the Toronto Police 23 Division Major Crime Unit nabbed the suspect in the Kipling Ave. and Rexdale Blvd. area.
It is alleged that officers seized a .45 calibre Glock 30 handgun, a magazine for 45 mm calibre ammunition and six rounds of 45 mm calibre ammunition.
The 17-year-old faces nine charges, including the unauthorized possession of a firearm and four counts of failing to comply with recognizance.
“There’s no doubt in my mind... further crimes involving firearms would have occurred,” said Inspector Ian Stratford.
The boy made a court appearance on August 28.
Stratford said his officers are working diligently to combat the rising gun violence.
“Any gun we get off the street is a good thing,” he added. “Our officers are really putting in the time and effort and I want to praise them for all they are doing to make this city safe.”
