Guns Recovered

Police allege they seized two guns and a quantity of drugs within minutes just a day after the start of a gun violence reduction strategy that includes the deployment of about 200 frontline officers.

A handgun police allege was being carried by a man near Eglinton Ave. W. and Dufferin St.

On Saturday July 21 at around 2.30 a.m., officers observed a male with a blue satchel riding a bicycle on a sidewalk on Eglinton Ave. W. near Dufferin St. in contravention of the Highway Traffic Act.

After three attempts to engage the man, he dropped the bike and fled. He was arrested after a brief pursuit.

During the investigation, officers located a loaded semi-automatic .380 calibre Beretta, marijuana and money in the satchel.

Ishaka Lamont, 19, of Toronto, faces nine charges.

He appeared in court on July 22.

About 20 minutes later, officers on patrol in the area of 2084 Lawrence Ave. E. spotted a stolen vehicle with a male inside sleeping.

He was arrested after becoming combative with police.

It’s alleged that a .22 calibre loaded pistol and a quantity of cocaine were located.

Leonardo Jones Alleyne, 21, of no fixed address, is facing 11 charges.

He made a court appearance on July 21.
